According to South China Morning Post, China and Laos have established a joint military facility, which may already be operational with Chinese military aircraft reported to be utilizing the site.

Satellite imagery indicates there are currently eight K-8/JL-8 training and light-attack aircraft at Ban Keun Airport, significantly more than the Laotian air force is assessed to possess. This unexpected number of aircraft, along with visible military vehicles, suggests an increase in military activity at the facility.

The ongoing use of this facility by Chinese forces represents a clear strategic shift that may have repercussions for neighboring nations and regional security, as highlighted in a report from Channel News Asia. The strengthening military ties between China and Laos could lead to heightened military influence in Southeast Asia.
