Marco Rubio, speaking during the G20 foreign ministers' meeting, expressed uncertainty about the potential for a negotiated end to the conflict in Ukraine in the near future. According to European officials, Rubio privately conveyed doubts about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would attend the upcoming G20 summit in Miami.

In response to inquiries about the feasibility of a peace agreement, Rubio indicated that Washington is still assessing the possibility of a deal, stating that the situation remains unchanged from Moscow's side. He underscored that there is no consensus regarding a near-term resolution.

Additionally, Rubio mentioned that Russia's nuclear arsenal necessitates maintaining communication between Washington and Moscow, emphasizing the risks of potential escalation in the future. In private discussions, he described Ukraine's NATO membership as unrealistic in the short term and unacceptable for Putin, warning that the conquest of Donbas would not fulfill Russia's territorial ambitions.
