The European Union has imposed sanctions on 77 individuals involved in the illegal elections for the Russian State Duma in occupied territories of Ukraine, according to multiple reports Pravda and Kyiv Independent.

Among those sanctioned, 74 were candidates running in the elections, while three were newly elected members of Russia's central electoral commission. The EU has characterized these elections as illegitimate and a tactic to reinforce Russian control over the occupied regions of Ukraine.

This strategic action highlights the EU's commitment to countering Russian efforts to legitimize its governance through fraudulent practices. The sanctions aim to send a strong message against such violations of international norms and to support Ukraine's sovereignty.
